Christmas office shutdown

How to prepare your office for Christmas break

A large number of companies close their offices for a set period of time during the Christmas break. This usually starts somewhere around Christmas Eve and finishes after New Year’s Day.

While this welcomed break to relax and enjoy the festive period with your loved ones is very exciting to look forward to, it’s important to make sure your office is ready for the shutdown period before you go. Especially if you won’t be returning for longer than a few days.

Important things to keep in mind

While you may be tempted to race out the door the second you finish the work day, make sure your office is well prepared to endure a week without anyone – especially given the weather conditions we’re currently experiencing.

This means turning off all the lights, turning down the thermostat and unplugging any unneeded equipment to save energy and money while your team is away.

A large part of a company’s energy bill comes from lighting. By making sure everything is turned off well in advance, you could enjoy significant savings during this festive period.

Repairs needed before you go

If your office is experiencing problems with the heating or your plumbing desperately needs to be looked at, make sure you get this sorted before the Christmas shutdown period. The last thing you want is for your employees to return back to work to a problematic office that can’t be worked in.

Not having your heating or lighting on for longer than a few days could serve as the final breaking point for any old systems that are hanging by a thread. Do your employees a favour and make sure they have a warm and functional office to return to after the holidays. January is hard enough without coming back to a broken office that needs lots of repairs.
